Paula Cole is the leader of Nationwide Financial’s Pension Risk Transfer business. In this role, she leads the team in supporting the transfer of pension liabilities to Nationwide from various plan sponsors facing financial difficulties in managing associated financial obligations.
With more than 20 years of experience in the Defined Benefit, Pension Risk Transfer and Benefit Administration space, Paula’s core focus has been promoting and achieving operational excellence as an advocate of business strategy improvement and change management. She began her career at Alight, formerly Aon Hewitt, as a Senior Operations Manager in the third-party benefit administration space before moving to Mercer where she worked as a Retirement Group Leader. Prior to joining Nationwide in March of 2020, Paula served as Director of Operations for the current global market leader, Legal & General. While there, she supported the entrance, scaling and transformation of the US pension risk transfer business.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Paula serves as Vice President for Nationwide’s African American Women Associate Resource Group (AWARE). She is also an active leader in supporting colleagues through performance management, mentorship, and diversity and inclusion efforts. She serves her local community as a member of the Board of Directors for Thurber House as a District Activist for the National MS Society.
Paula holds an undergraduate degree in Sociology and Business Administration from North Central College and an undergraduate degree and Masters in Operational Excellence from the Ohio State University. She has also achieved her Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and Project Management Certifications.
Paula and her family reside in Westerville, Ohio. Paula is a Certified Personal & Youth Fitness Trainer (NASM, AFAA, ACE), Behavioral Change and Weight Management Specialist and Coach (ACE). She holds a USSF C coaching license & United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) National Youth Diploma in Soccer.
