This time last summer, inflation had surged to a 40-year high of 9.1%, with everyday essentials becoming more expensive. Since then, inflation has dropped sharply to 3%, its lowest point in two years, but still higher than the Fed’s 2% target rate. Yet still, this is some of the most hopeful news since the Fed began its tightening policy early last year that it can pull off a soft landing for the economy.
