The big question facing policymakers is if it can pull off a soft landing where the economy cools off without a painful recession. This is a bit of an elusive scenario, but it’s happened before, with the Fed last pulling one off in 1994-95. While the initial descent has provided some good news on the inflation front, the economy plane is still not on the ground.
